Will County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual
and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.
Partner families invest 350 hours of labor – “sweat equity” – into building their homes
and/or the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Habitat for Humanity to use to build more houses.
Habitat for Humanity is a well-known international organization with many local chapters. It welcomes all people—regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or any other difference—to build and repair simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter. There are several local chapters throughout Illinois. This local chapter works with people in Will County who are defined as having “critical housing needs”–meaning that these households are paying too much of their monthly income for housing and/or they are living in substandard quality or overcrowded conditions. HFH Will County is trying to make a difference for these families by helping to provide simple, decent homes.
You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer at HFH Will County. HFH Will County also requires signed safety and waiver forms. These forms can be found on their website.
