We’re kicking off our April Shoe Drive this week in cooperation with the Share Your Soles Foundation. A team of four hard-working, committed Moraine Valley Students—Haley, Xenia, Miguel, and Dil—are taking this drive on as a part of their service learning work this semester. Twelve shoe collection barrels have been placed across the Moraine Valley Community College campus in Palos Hills, IL. Come on out with your new or gently used shoes to donate this spring. The shoes will be counted, sorted, and processed by the students and delivered to Share Your Soles. From there, they will be cleaned/polished, laced, boxed and prepared for shipment to one of the many truly impoverished areas around the world that Share Your Soles serves. Shoes truly can mean the difference between living and dying in many places of the world. So many of us take our own shoes for granted. Remember those in need this spring. Clear out the gently used shoes you won’t wear again (or buy some new ones to give if you’d like) and bring them to one of the many collection barrels on campus. You’ll find a barrel in every major campus building—from the library to the gym. If you need help locating one, just contact us, and we’ll direct you.
Keep an eye on the our collection thermometer (to the right) appearing in various places on actoutnow.org throughout the drive. Our goal is 1,000 pairs of shoes!
Want to get involved with Share Your Soles? Join the student crew and other volunteers on April 6th, when they visit the Share Your Soles warehouse to help out. Or contact Share Your Soles directly to schedule your volunteer day or learn more about getting involved with this fantastic organization. Can’t give time, but want to give money? Share Your Soles is in constant need of financial support to pay for the extreme costs of processing and shipping shoes. Visit their web site to learn how you can help in these and other ways: shareyoursoles.org.
